Fine Silver Metal Clay Intensive Workshop
Class Date: Saturday / Sunday November 12/13th Time: 9:30 – 4:30pm
Guest Instructor: Patrice Baker – Silver Fish Studios – Patrice Baker (@silverfishstudios) • Instagram photos and videos
Class Outline: Metal clay is an amazing material which allows complete beginners to create solid silver jewellery quickly and easily. The ingredients are just fine metal particles, an organic binder and water. They can be worked in the same way as ceramic clays – rolled, formed, textured and cut. When the water is allowed to evaporate and the dry piece is fired, the result is a pure silver item.
Day 1 – In this intro class, we will use natural objects, drawings and manufactured textures to create designs on the surface of the silver. You will learn all the steps to make reversible pendants and earrings.
Day 2 – With the basic skills from Day 1, we will take on a few more challenging techniques. We will create two kinds of adorable hollow beads to make into pendants. The ‘lentil’ bead can be made with or without a window, and is fully reversible. The ‘spool’ bead spins beautifully and can be made in nearly any size.
Material Cost: It is estimated that students will require two (2) 25 gram package of pure silver clay for both days. Each package is $90. $180 would be payable to the instructor on Day 1. Students should expect to leave with 8-10 pieces. All other tools and materials are provided, including one set of ear wires. Participants are encouraged to bring textured items such as lace or wallpaper. No experience is necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes, comfortable clothes, your hair tied back.
Payment Details Workshop Fee: $300.00 +HST per person. Material kit fee ($180 for both days) is paid directly to the instructor on Day 1 of the workshop.
