Class Outline:
Adding Colour to Metal Clay Jewellery
Bring your metal clay creations to life with vibrant colour! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to enhance the surface of fine silver jewellery using India inks — a versatile and expressive medium. Whether you prefer bold, saturated hues or soft, blended tones, this class will introduce you to techniques for adding rich dimension and personality to your finished pieces. Perfect for those looking to explore colour as a creative design element in their metal clay work.
Silver metal clay is an ideal medium for colour accents because:
- Recesses can be built into the clay design to hold and frame the ink beautifully
- Textures are easy to create in metal clay and can show through translucent inks, adding depth and interest to your design
In this class, students will:
- Learn how to properly prepare fine silver surfaces for colour application
- Explore a variety of techniques for applying, blending, and layering India inks
- Understand how to seal and protect your coloured surface for long-lasting results
- Discover how colour can add emotion, contrast, and depth to metal clay designs
- Gain confidence in using India inks as a tool for creative expression
By the end of the class, students should expect to complete a pair of earrings and a pendant in Art Clay Fine silver metal clay incorporating colour into their designs. Workshop fee includes 25 grams of Art Clay Fine Silver.
